historic landmark no. 23 - built in 1860

a work in progress
the photos below were taken in the midst of restoration which is an ongoing part of the project but not what has been transpiring here of late. several updated photos with examples of what has occurred here and what the house & grounds currently look like are now on the about & writing days pages of the menu.

the current focus of the project is on these four offerings...

1. artist residencies
january, april, july and october. each with an open house at the end of the month on a sunday. we are currently building our kitchen program with the guidance of leah tumerman, an artist herself. our hope is that we will be able to provide nourishment as well as space and time in 2024. in addition to encouraging visual artists, performance artists, dancers, writers, filmmakers, historians, gardeners and ecologists - we are encouraging people who are interested in the culinary arts to apply as well. not sure as of yet what this will look like, but if you are willing to experiment with us, let us know your ideas...

2. workshops
facilitated by fellows and or community members to help activate the space and fund the project. these workshops range from space and time to educational offerings - learn about cooking, gardening, specific art techniques and prompts to expand your writing practice. these are still being imagined and built - perhaps you have an idea you'd like to share?

3. house rentals
for people who find themselves drawn here and are in line with the framework of the project. a group is invited to rent the house for an entire month each year - this a first come, first aligned scenario. ideally this rental is in december. please ask for the rental link via email and let us know what you are imagining. there will always be someone living on site in the back shack, but the main house and grounds are available to make yours for the end of the year holiday season. if another month is of interest, please contact us and let us know what you are thinking.

4. a & b - membership program & a biweekly open door to the public

(currently in the dreamwork phase)
a. community membership
that activates the house in a myriad of ways. i.e. access to the extensive library while on site, host your own poetry reading or dance performance, facilitate a board meeting of your like minded organization, or any kind of intentional gathering that feels called to the site - music shows, art installations, sound baths, meditation retreats, cooking classes. at this moment, we are very open to suggestions from those that are interested in membership and can help grow the dream into a reality.

b. in 2024 there will be a day every other week that the whp door is open to the public - this, so that anyone who might like to come and see what it is like when the space is not activated by a particular event has a quiet moment to experience the magic that is winslow. this will be a very good time to meet us and explore ideas. there will be a 10 person limit, so you will need to book ahead. we plan on keeping these offerings small in order to ensure actual connection & clear understanding.

UP TO DATE
we are hosting four artist residencies in 2023 - january 10-31, april 4-25, july 4-25 and october 10-31. at the end of each residency period there will be an open house on the last sunday showcasing the work of the 3-4 residents. the public and community will be invited to make a reservation to attend these gatherings as space is limited. announcements will be made on instagram and via the mailing list. you can find the dates and times under the 2023 tab.

also, if you are inspired, reach out and propose your idea - we are looking for local artists to interact with the project by using the house for poetry readings, lectures, artist workshops, art installations, dance performances, music, outdoor film screenings - what is drawn here considers local and global ecological and social issues. site specific installations considering vallejo are strongly encouraged.

any amount of elbow grease anyone has to lend is an important part of our energetic funding.

the grounds

one acre
five garden beds, a flock of chickens & a wide variety of mature trees and plants.
we also hope to thoughtfully continue the landscape formation with native and drought tolerant species.

the buildings

farmhouse, barn, shack, henhouse
...with plans for a gallery and workspaces to be built where the shack sits. the barn will eventually serve as the guest rental which will help fund the program while allowing others to enjoy all winslow has to offer.

the people

fieldwork homeground
a place for people to come together and reflect on the world at this time.

the ground is rich, the sky is violet.

vallejo, california

...there is much to see here. much to talk about. much to learn.
